🚖 The Best Option
The easiest and most comfortable way to get there is by tuk tuk.
For daytime journeys, we recommend using the PickMe app, which is usually the quickest and most economical way to travel around Negombo.
🚲 By Bicycle
If you enjoy cycling, you can also reach the town by bicycle.
The journey is mostly flat and allows you to discover different parts of Negombo along the way. Just remember that temperatures can be high during the middle of the day, so we recommend setting off in the morning or late afternoon.

One of the things we love most about Negombo Town is that it’s full of small, family-run shops. There are no large shopping malls here—just friendly local businesses where every street offers something different to discover.
These are our favourite tips:
- ✔ Visit in the late afternoon. The temperatures are cooler and the town becomes much more lively.
- ✔ Bring some cash. Many small local shops and market stalls don’t accept credit cards.
- ✔ Take your time exploring. Some of the most interesting shops aren’t on the main street—they’re hidden down small side roads waiting to be discovered.
- ✔ Don’t focus only on shopping. Stop for a fresh fruit juice, try a traditional Sri Lankan snack or simply enjoy watching everyday life around you.
- ✔ If you’re looking for souvenirs, Ceylon tea or local spices, compare a few shops before making your choice. Every store has something unique to offer.
- ✔ Smile and say hello. Sri Lankans are incredibly welcoming, and you’ll often find that the most memorable part of your visit is the kindness of the people you meet.
